How many hours a day do you spend with blogging?

Since Gal Meets Glam is my full-time business, I work on it all day, every day, seven days a week. The greatest thing about working for yourself is that you can set your own hours, but since my life is my work, I pretty much work from the moment I open my eyes in the morning until I close them at night. A typical day consists of answering emails, running social media, meetings/calls, working with brands, styling looks, shooting content, writing copy, searching for inspiration and many other things in between!

Which Social Media Platforms do you consider the most important?

All Social Media Platforms play a significant role, but Instagram is the most powerful platform because it connects me with my followers on a more instant level than the blog does. It provides immediate feedback about the content I am creating. Pinterest also plays a huge role and is one of my top referral sites for directing traffic to Gal Meets Glam.

When did you notice that blogging  could be a full time job for you and you can earn money with writing?

In late 2013, after much deliberation, and with the support of my family and friends, I decided to run Gal Meets Glam full-time. It was one of the scariest, most rewarding experiences! Having the ability to focus solely on my business was like a weight lifted off my shoulders. I knew I could finally start achieving the things I had always dreamed of doing. I was already making more money from my blog than my full-time job, so it didn’t feel as risky.

You’re one of only few bloggers who haven’t studied fashion, social media or internet. Nevertheless you decided to work full-time on your blog Gal meets Glam only two years after it was launched. Did you ever imagine your blog to grow so quickly?

I don’t really don’t believe that someone has to study something to be good at it. I received my Bachelors Degree in Business with a concentration in Marketing and Entrepreneurship. I have always been creative and loved fashion. Earning a business degree was the best thing I could have done for myself because, even though my site is about fashion, it has become a real thriving business. Those skills have been invaluable in taking my site to the next level, including how to make smart decisions to grow my career into a sustainable business. Social media savvy comes with experience. I’ve been on Instagram since the beginning, and I follow my statistics and analytics for each platform in detail weekly. From there, I am able to analyze what is working and what is not, and how I can perform better.

Which was the most beautiful experience related to your Blog?

Meeting and having the opportunity to work with creative people and make unique content that I am proud of. The best thing is receiving emails and feedback from readers about the impact that Gal Meets Glam has had on them. Nothing is more rewarding.

How do you start your day? Have you any special morning ritual, which brings you the energy you need? Do you do some sports or do you have a healthy breakfast?

If we aren’t traveling, I try to start my day with a workout first thing in the morning, be it a spin class at the gym, or a brisk, long walk.  Thomas and I love herbal teas, so I will usually make a cup to go with a plate of fresh fruit and granola.  I think it’s very important to eat a healthy breakfast after working out in order to retain your energy level throughout the day.

In your opinion, in current time what is better-  a personal or a good researched text with added value?

In my opinion, creating content that reflects the writer or brand’s true voice allows for a more personal experience for the reader, which is much more relatable as well.  Research is valuable when the writer is trying to develop credibility as a subject-matter expert.

There are so many blogs – do you follow any of the blogs?

Yes, some of my personal favorites are The Londoner and The College Prepster, who are also both good friends of mine.

What are your goals, dreams and wishes for you and your blog in the next few years?

I plan on expanding the Gal Meets Glam brand even further, creating a deeper and more personal connection with my readers. We have been in the works on some exciting things to come in the next few years, and I can’t wait to see them to come to fruition.

What handy tips would you give to bloggers for their start-up?

Start a blog because you love it and want to do it, whether or not anyone else wants to read it. Understand that opportunities and money do not materialize overnight, but are the result of hard work, consistency, and dedication.

Find your unique voice and stay true to it.

Find support and encouragement in close friends and family, as well as a mentor, if possible.  The world of social media can be rewarding, but it can also be harsh at times.

Be selective about content from the very beginning and try to match opportunities with your brand.
